My World: Lata Iskandar Waterfalls

This is a well-known waterfall in Perak situated just off the long and winding road between Tapah and Cameron Highlands, approximately midway between the two destinations, Lata Iskandar is a multi-tiered fall, with pools at the base of each tier.

Many a visitor takes the opportunity to go for a short dip in the cool water of these pools, which have their origins up in the higher reaches of the surrounding highlands. Nature lovers can go slightly off the beaten track and get to enjoy the rich flora and fauna.

Near the base of the falls, visitors will find a handicraft bazaar where an assortment of craft is available for one's selection. Look out especially for the craft of Orang Asli, the so-called "original people" of the country.

A row of stalls serving drinks and snacks have been set up nearby for the convenience of people who stop to enjoy the pleasures of Lata Iskandar.

This is my first entry in another interesting and fun meme: My World Tuesday ...I'm begin with my hometown, a place where I've been born and raised. It's called Kampung Taman Sedia (Village of a ready garden - literally translate). Located in a district of Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia. It's the only Malay village in Cameron Highlands and there are 42 neighbors there. You can find a lots of place to stay here, as most of the neighbors provide a homestay (and that's include my dad & mom's house) with a reasonable price ...way cheaper than the glamor hotel and chalet at Cameron Highlands..and if you planning to have a vacation over there, don't forget to cantact me..lol!

Passion Fruit

Passiflora edulis or passion fruit is a plant cultivated commercially in frost-free areas, and healthily grows in Cameron Highlands. Locally, this sourly taste fruits are called as "Buah Cinta". Usually you can get this fruits at RM1 for 5. I don't know the history why the named it as Passion Fruit. From wiki; Its a native to South America and maybe we can get some info from a people there on why they named this fruit as Passion Fruit :).

Fresh Passion Fruit is known to be high in vitamin A, Potassium and dietary fibre. Passion fruit is widely employed by herbalists and natural health practitioners around the world today for its sedative, nervine, anti-spasmodic and analgesic effects.

How to Use

Indigenous tribes throughout the Amazon have long used passionflower leaves for its sedative and pain-relieving properties; the fruit is used as a heart tonic and to calm coughs.

Flowers From My Mom's Backyard

I'm not really into flowers photo actually, but my hometown is situated in Cameron Highlands. Everybody love to see and buy flowers when they are visiting Cameron Highlands. So, I give it a try to capture some flowers from my mom's backyard during this "Hari Raya" break. Using Kodak Easyshare C813. I wish I had a DSLR camera, huhuhuu...

Some of the photo of my hometown, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Been captured by others, not a Cameronian..I don't have a photo collection of my hometown..lol. Don't know why, maybe I was born and raised there and it keeps my surrounding look ordinary to me.

Cameron Highlands are the highest mount of West Malaysia. At 5,000 feet above sea level, the temperatures are quite cool year-round. They rarely go higher than 25°C or lower than 10°C fifteen years back, now the weather are bit warmer up to 31°C during the day.Sir William Cameron, a Scottish colonial surveyor, came upon the plateau in 1885 during a mapping expedition. Yet he did not mark his discovery, so it was not developed into a resort until 1925, by Sir George Maxwell. During the colonial era the popularity of Cameron (as the locals call it) grew, when British expatriates came there to escape the lowland heat. Soon after, British planters realized that the fertile mountain slopes would be perfect for growing tea, which back then was a highly valued commodity. And until today, Cameron Highlands are still home to many tea plantations in Malaysia. But I still prefer coffe :)

Have extra bucks...stay here at The Lake House. Located 10km from Tanah Rata, a well maintained old building from the colonial era converted to resort hotel situated on the hill and facing a large Sultan Abu Bakar dam.
